Campus Landscape Replacement

Policy
Purpose:

To maintain and enhance the beauty of the campus landscape through replacement of campus trees and landscaping lost to disease, age, weather, or otherwise identified for removal.

Applies to:

Units on the Lawrence campus that are responsible for planning and maintenance of campus facilities and landscaping.

Campus:
Lawrence
Policy Statement:

Campus landscaping impacted by construction, storm damage, disease, or other natural or human impacts should be restored to the best condition possible, following guidelines of the Landscape Master Plan and Campus Heritage Plan.

Tree Replacement

The removal of trees on campus requires permission from the Campus Tree Committee and a two-to-one replacement of the trees, unless otherwise specified to meet desired outcomes. The number, location and species of the replacement trees will be identified by the Campus Tree Committee.

Exclusions or Special Circumstances:

If an area is damaged or designated for new construction, the number of trees to be replaced may be at a ratio of one tree per 2,000 square feet of canopy removed rather than on a two-to-one basis, or the remaining area may be improved following a plan approved by the Campus Tree Committee.

Consequences:

If permission to remove trees was not approved or construction plans do not include two-to-one replacement of trees identified for removal, the responsible entity will be billed for the cost of replacing the trees at the amount identified in the list of donor opportunities.
