Documentation of Attendance Policy for Direct Loan
The amount of Direct Loans that a student is eligible to receive is based on the number of credits in which they enroll and attend. If a student withdraws from all courses, the student and KU may be required to repay some or all of the Direct Loans received for the term. The Documentation of Attendance process (DA) is used to determine if a student attended a class. Financial Aid and Scholarships (FAS) works with faculty and IT EdTech to confirm whether or not a student began attendance to determine eligibility for Direct Loans.
When FAS receives notification that a student receiving a Direct Loan who has withdrawn from all courses after financial aid funds have been disbursed, FAS must determine if the student participated in an academically related activity in the course. Documentation of Attendance (DA) is used to determine what portion, if any, of their Direct Loan a student must repay.
Students are automatically notified by email at the beginning of the term that they will go through the DA process and may have to repay aid. Class information is submitted through an automated system. If no attendance can be determined, instructors are then contacted by email and asked to document the student’s attendance or participation in any academically related activity.
Once attendance has been determined, the student will receive an email notification if repayment is required and the process for repayment.
