Applicability of the Associate of Arts Degree to the KU Core

Policy
Guideline
Purpose:

To articulate select Associate of Arts degrees to Goals 1-3 of the KU Core.

Applies to:

Undergraduate transfer students who have earned select Associate degrees and who have been admitted to KU as a degree seeking undergraduate.

Campus:
Edwards
Lawrence
Policy Statement:

Students who have earned an Associate degree from the following list will be considered to have met Goals 1-3 of the KU Core (general education). Additional postsecondary institutions may be added as KU continues to create formal partnerships.

  • An Associate of Arts degree from a regionally accredited Kansas public college, Kansas public university, or Kansas public community college
  • An Associate of Arts degree from Metropolitan Community College, Kansas City, Missouri

An Associate of Science degree from Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, Kansas

Except as provided for by the Kansas Board of Regents’ Qualified Admission Regulations [K.A.R. Articles 88-29, 29a and 29b, as applicable], students seeking admission to KU must apply for admissions and meet admission requirements or be granted an exception to be admitted, regardless of whether or not they have earned an Associate of Arts degree.

Associate of Arts degree holders to whom this policy applies must meet all additional requirements of their chosen program of study as well as the requirements of goals 4-6 of the KU Core. Requirements may include additional lower-division coursework or minimum grades for specific courses.

Exclusions or Special Circumstances:

Students earning an Associate of Arts degree from an institution other than a regionally accredited Kansas public college, public university, or public community college or another specifically designated postsecondary institution are excluded. Transfer coursework will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.

This policy applies specifically to the Associate degrees listed above. Other degrees do not fall under this policy. Transfer coursework will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.

This policy does not apply to students with an initial KU entry term prior to Fall 2013.
