Tuition and Deferment

Veteran/Military Deferment:

Students receiving Veterans Education Benefits (Chapter 33, 31, 35, 30, and 1606) are eligible to receive tuition and student and wellness fee deferments. The tuition and fee deferment will be applied to the student’s account at the time that the “New Request” or “Continued Use” form is submitted each semester.

Students using VA Chapter 33 or VA Chapter 31 education benefits will be allowed to attend and participate in their course of education provided they have submitted to their Veteran Certifying Official a current Certificate of Eligibility or Statement of Benefits “eBenefits” (for Chapter 33) or a current VA Form 28-1905 (for Chapter 31).  If the VA delays in submitting funds to KU for these students, these students will have full access to their classes, libraries, and other institutional facilities.  They will not be required to borrow funds and will not have penalties or late fees imposed because of the VA’s delay.

In order to avoid late payment fees, all tuition and fees must be paid in full by December 15 for the fall semester, May 15 for the spring semester, and August 15 for the summer term. If the final bill is not paid by the billing due date, late payment fees may be incurred and a past due balance hold will be placed on the student's account.

The student is responsible for late payment fees incurred prior to the placement of tuition and student and wellness fee deferments. Contact the University Registrar VA Certifying Official to avoid late payment fees and other fees, as priority deadlines may vary.

Financial aid awarded, but not dispersed:

Financial Aid and Scholarships (FAS) may defer payment of tuition and fees for a financial aid recipient. The student may request a deferment when financial aid has been awarded, but has not disbursed. FAS will review the situation, including the reason balance is unpaid by the due date, charges, and projected financial aid. This review will also include careful evaluation of financial aid status, including Satisfactory Academic Progress, missing information, hours of enrollment, etc. A deferment fee of $50.00 may be assessed.

With the exceptions noted above, due dates for payment of tuition and fees and penalties for late payment, tuition, fees and other outstanding financial obligations are payable in full at the scheduled fee payment time displayed on bills issued by Student Account Services.
