Midwest Student Exchange Program
This policy outlines the eligibility requirements for the Midwest Student Exchange, the length of the scholarship, renewal criteria and any exceptions to the scholarships.
Students who currently receive the Midwest Student Exchange and prospective undergraduate transfer students at the University of Kansas, Lawrence campus.
The Midwest Student Exchange Program is a partial tuition discount program designed to improve access for non-resident undergraduate students to attend the University of Kansas. Students who have been selected to receive the Midwest Student Exchange discount will be charged 150% of resident tuition rates.
Eligibility
- Newly admitted transfer students, who are assessed non-resident tuition rates, for the 2022-2023 academic year can be considered for the Midwest Student Exchange. Applicants must:
- submit a complete undergraduate admission application (by May 1 for summer and fall semesters and Dec. 1 for spring semester)
- submit all official transcripts (by June 30 for summer and fall semesters or by January 6 for spring semester)
- have earned 3.25 cumulative college GPA
- have completed 24 transferable college credit hours
- not have earned a bachelor's degree previously and
- not have previously attended KU as a degree seeking student
- Only prospective transfer students from the states of Indiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio or Wisconsin can be considered.
- Graduate students are not eligible for consideration. Beginning with the fall 2018 freshmen class, the Midwest Student Exchange is no longer offered to incoming freshmen.
Terms
The Midwest Student Exchange scholarship will expire after three years of undergraduate study or upon earning an undergraduate degree; whichever occurs first for the recipient.
Renewal
Students must maintain a KU GPA of 3.25, complete 27 KU hours each academic year and be assessed non-resident tuition rates. If a student meets the renewal criteria, the scholarship will be renewed for the upcoming academic year. If the renewal criterion is not met, the scholarship will be revoked. At any time, the scholarship will be reinstated if the student should meet the academic renewal criteria.
Any student assessed non-resident tuition who had been approved for Midwest Student Exchange whose tuition status changes to resident because of a residency classification change, fee privileges or special rates will no longer be eligible for the Midwest Student Exchange. Financial Aid & Scholarships will monitor scholarship recipients on a regular basis and if the student is paying resident tuition rates the scholarship will be revoked effective for the next semester.
